Jerry and Barbara Glauser love their home at 460 Saint Paul St. in the heart of Cherry Creek.
But the retired car dealer and his wife also own homes in Aspen, Arizona, and Florence, Italy.
“We love Denver, but we only spend about a month here a year, and it doesn’t make sense to have a 12,000-square-foot house,” Glauser said. “We wish we could take it with us.”
Instead, the Glausers plan to downsize to a smaller home for their time in Denver. They listed their 11,885-square-foot mansion for $11 million on March 2.
The five-bedroom, eight-bathroom home designed by architect Michael Knorr sits on one-third acre in Cherry Creek. It features 12-foot ceilings, heated floors, a spiral staircase, an elevator, a domed skylight and a two-story gym.
The Glausers purchased the home in 2004 for $4.2 million, then bought the one next door for $850,000. They scraped the latter and turned to Paul Kobey, the original builder, to expand the house.
This isn’t the first time the Glausers tried to sell. They listed the property with Kentwood Real Estate DTC for $14 million in 2019 before removing the listing the following March. Kentwood listed it for $11 million in June 2020 before removing the listing. Douglas Kerbs with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty then listed the home for $11 million in March 2022.
Kerbs is confident he’ll be able to find the right buyer for the home. He’s been working to promote the property to potential luxury buyers. For example, he shared details about the mansion with brokers at Liv Sotheby’s networking conference in Las Vegas.
“We’re seeing more sophisticated buyers from both coasts coming to Denver,” he said. “This home will appeal to someone who’s looking for something with architectural significance.”
The contemporary home, one of the largest in Cherry Creek, includes a five-car garage, five outdoor heated parking spots, a koi pond, and yoga and massage rooms.
Glauser, who owned several Glauser Mercedes-Benz dealerships, including one in Westminster, before selling them and retiring, said the couple feels more motivated to sell the Denver house now that they’ve completed a new home in Arizona.
The couple’s even open to selling it fully furnished — minus their art collection.
Despite being a block from the busy 6th Avenue, the home feels secluded, according to its owner.
“You can’t see the whole house from the street, and that’s what we like about it,” Glauser said. “It’s very private.”
